“The Cloud” is a term used to broadly describe software that runs over the internet.
To get a better grasp on it, every time you see “the cloud” mentally replace it with “someone else’s computer.”
For example:
Our business relies on
– Some Poor Schmuckthe cloudsomeone else’s computer.
I backup my family photos tothe cloudsomeone else’s computer.
Why does this matter? Well for starters:
- Where is your data stored? Is it close or far away?
- Who is responsible for keeping it safe? Do you trust them?
- Do you know who has access to your data? How is it protected?
How do you decide which “cloud” to pick? Just ask yourself: Is it close, is it safe, and is it secure?
